Compatibility of NEi Fusion with 3D CAD


Modello CAD 3D importato in NEi Fusion NEi Fusion allows the data exchange with 3D modeling systems for mechanical design. NEi Fusion can read and write geometry files in a wide range of formats, both native (e.g. SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer, Inventor, Solid Edge) and using neutral formats (Parasolid, STEP, ACIS, IGES).

Once the geometry is imported in side NEi Fusion, the user can modify it using the feasture-based commands to semplify it an make it usable for structural analysis. The automatic mesh controls of NEi Fusion allow the automatic simplification and defeaturing of the geometrical details that aren't required for FEA purposes.

Automatic Defeaturing

The simplification of the geometry is essential for reliable structural analysis. NEi Fusion has a number of controls that help the mesher in the geometry simplification, eliminating all the details that aren't needed for finite element analysis. This operation is commonly called defeaturing and it's one of the most important in the preparation of the finite element model.

I addition to the automatic defeaturing, NEiFusion offers also local controls that the user may activate manually along part edges, defining the level of detaild desired for the analysis.

Demonstration of NEi Fusion

A Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is performed on a simple part to illustrate the working environment of NEi Fusion. First, part geometry is imported from a Parasolid based CAD system. A material is selected from the extensive material library providing the program with the appropriate property values. Solid, shell, and composite elements are available. A solid element is used in this example. Loads and constraint conditions are applied. Meshing is done automatically. A linear analysis is executed. Post processing offers a number of graphic outputs. A color contour plot showing von Mises stresses with deformation is selected to graphically illustrate structural properties in this example.
